A publisher, editor, and writer, Carla Helfferich has her own business, McRoy & Blackburn, Publishers. She worked for many years as the managing editor of the University of Alaska Press. Her long career as a writer has included articles for the Alaska Science Forum in the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, prize-winning poetry, and a mystery novel, as well as numerous pieces in The Ester Republic, and has won an award from the Alaska Press Club for her work. She has been a much-appreciated editor for the Republic, as well as for countless scientists, historians, engineers, students, and the like, not to mention her two daughters.
