Information for authors:

The Press accepts Alaska-oriented manuscripts for the general reader from Alaskan authors, in the following areas: cartoons, history and other nonfiction works, humor, illustration & photography, and poetry. Due to the influx of manscripts, the Press is not accepting submissions at this time. Please check again in six months.

The University of Alaska Press publishes scholarly nonfiction relating to the circumpolar north, while McRoy & Blackburn, Publishers, accepts northern fiction.

To submit a manuscript (when submissions open again):

please provide the following items with your submission:

a cover letter explaining who you are, your intended audience, and your writing experience

a detailed book proposal, including marketing outline

your complete manuscript, doublespaced and on 8.5" x 11" paper at 11 or 12 point type

sample illustrations as appropriate

a zip disk or CD (Mac compatible) with electronic versions of your word files (preferably in Microsoft Word)

a stamped, self-addressed return envelope (otherwise the publisher does not guarantee return of your materials)

For illustrated works, such as cartoon collections, illustrated novels or children's books, or photographic works, a sample chapter may be substituted for the complete manuscript on the initial submission. We may request a complete manuscript before making a preliminary decision.
